Fall 2026 Workshop | Threaded Petals with Katerina Knight
Description
Threaded Petals is a hand embroidery workshop that invites you to discover Katerina’s unique process for creating delicate textile structures that are threaded with earth's ephemeral offerings.
Guided by Katerina, you will be introduced to knotting and needlelace stitches, such as - interlacing, single brussels, and herringbone ladder filling stitch, and how dried petals and seeds can be incorporated as alternative embellishment materials. Each stage will gradually develop in complexity. Once you have mastered the techniques, Katerina will provide you with tips and inspiration for the next steps in taking these stitches forward and create larger textile artworks.
This workshop is a personal interpretation to needlelace – a homage to the traditions of the craft, reimagined through Katerina’s artistic style. Katerina’s practice delicately blends nature and craft, the floral materials Katerina works with are homegrown where she lives in Malvern, in the Worcestershire countryside, UK. In 2022, she spent time working in the archive of The Lace Guild Museum in Stourbridge, the largest lace organisation in the UK. Learning about “Punto in aria”, an early form of Italian needlelace, translating to “stitch in air”, inspired her to reinterpret the intricacy of needlelace techniques, through her own artistic language — intertwining horticulture and textile, flora and thread.
All sessions will be held online over Zoom and recorded. Recordings will be emailed to participants within 24 hours of the session. Recordings are available for one year.
